St. Francis is a National school in Priorswood, Dublin 17. It was founded in 1976 (Just one year after OLI) In St. Francis J.N.S. we place particular importance on literacy and numeracy. In partnership with parents we work to instil a love of reading and writing in our children. Through games and quizzes children learn that numbers can be fun. Check out the website for links to games to improve literacy and numeracy. Some initiatives we use in the school: Jolly Phonics, First Steps Reading, Writing and Speaking & Listening, Reading Recovery, Paired Reading, Ready, Set, Go Maths, Maths for Fun, Maths Recovery. We run a Reading for Fun project twice a year. Many parents volunteer to help run these programmes. Perhaps you might consider giving some of your free time to help out in the school.
We nurture a love of the Irish language and Irish culture in our school. We encourage the children to use Irish as often as possible throughout the day. We take part in Seachtain na Geailge each year. Children practice their oral Irish through games and songs, and they take part in Gaelic sports. Why not try a “cúpla focal” yourself. You may be surprised how much your child knows and how much you remember! Is beatha teanga í a labhairt. We also celebrate the diversity of other nationalities and cultures.
We believe in the holistic development of our children. We encourage them to express themselves through Art, Music, Drama and Sport. Throughout the school year the children take pride in displaying their artwork. They learn about various artists and visit art galleries. They perform in concerts and shows. Every class participates in P.E. lessons. Make sure you don’t miss our School Sports Day. Children from Senior Infants to Second are coached in Gaelic football and hurling by a coach from O’Tooles G.A.A. club.
Children aged 5-12 years of age use this service.
